Cloudflare is down !!!

Massive internet outage: Cloudflare incident brings part of the global web to a standstill

A major outage hit Cloudflare this afternoon, rendering numerous websites and online services inaccessible. From X to Feedly, including Marmiton and Doctissimo, users are reporting loading errors, inaccessible pages, and massive slowdowns. The exact cause of the malfunction remains unknown at this time.

Cloudflare, a pillar of web security and performance, usually provides protection against DDoS attacks, optimizes traffic, and ensures the availability of millions of websites. Its failure inevitably sends shockwaves around the world: when such a central player goes down, entire sections of the internet become inaccessible.

In a statement sent to Tech&Co, the company explains that it is investigating “an issue affecting its helpdesk portal provider,” causing errors when users and customers attempt to access services. She adds that the incident “appears to be linked to a service interruption affecting X,” while also reporting massive problems with “human verification” when accessing certain sites.

Many sites are affected.

The American company currently occupies a unique position, as its protection services are used by nearly 20% of the web. X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI, ChatGPT, Claude AI, and numerous news sites are among the paralyzed platforms, all of which depend, directly or indirectly, on Cloudflare’s infrastructure.

Facebook, AWS (Amazon Web Services), bet365, Canva, Spotify, BrightHR, Decathlon, and even the game League of Legends have also experienced outages.

One last unfortunate twist: Downdetector, the site usually used to track internet incidents in real time, is also disrupted… a further sign of the scale of the Cloudflare outage.

Around 2 PM (Paris time), however, Cloudflare indicated that it had identified the source of the problem and that its engineers were currently deploying an emergency fix. Traffic is beginning to gradually return to normal in some areas, but significant instability remains.

Hence the importance of not putting all your eggs in one basket…
