Players Unable To Access Diablo IV After A Major DDoS Attack
Diablo IV was targeted by a major distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that happened over the weekend. The attack made it impossible for players to access the game. The DDoS campaign happened over the weekend and lasted until the early hours of Sunday morning.
Blizzard Games’ Diablo IV targeted by DDoS attack
The Battle.net online service by Blizzard Games has been the target of a major DDoS campaign. The campaign has made it nearly impossible and challenging for players to access Diablo IV, World of Warcraft game, and other games supported by Blizzard.
The DDoS campaign lasted until the company resolved the issues and its servers returned online. The customer support account for Blizzard said that the company would continue monitoring the ongoing DDoS campaign that was affecting latency and connections.
The customer support account for Blizzard Games tweeted about this campaign, saying, “We continue to actively monitor an ongoing DDoS attack which is affecting latency/connections to our games.” The platform had earlier said that it was running investigations about an authentication issue.
The issue remained unresolved for quite some time. The company admitted the attack saying that the issue could result in disconnections and high latency for some of the players. The company posted this alert on the Battle.net site on PC. It also assured the players that it was actively working to solve the issue.
Players took to Reddit to complain about the outage and the inability to access the Diablo IV game. The complaints said that the players were briefly able to play this game before they were disconnected from the platform.
Some players have also said that they were not able to play the latest game by Blizzard for between 10 and 12 hours. As such, the incident has renewed the calls about Blizzard integrating an offline mode on the Diablo IV game.
After hours of players complaining about the inability to access games because of the DDoS campaign, the company released an update earlier this week saying that the issue had been resolved. The platform said that the exploits that had been seen earlier in the day were over.
The company has also shared an advisory with users who are still facing connection issues. It urged the users that could not connect to follow the troubleshooting advice that was displayed on its website.
DDoS attack comes amid planned expansions for Diablo IV
The DDoS campaign against Diablo IV comes at a time when Blizzard is planning expansions for Diablo IV. The platform has already attained general availability after a brief that granted an early access period for the buyers making pre-orders.
The expansion appears to be beneficial to the players because of the reviews that it is already receiving. Windows Central said that it was possibly the best game that Blizzard has ever created.
A report by Tech Radar has also praised the initiative saying that it set a new standard for isometric and open-world adventures. The sites launched for the game and others have also provided the game with a perfect score that could result in major gains along the way.
Diablo IV has not shared a clear roadmap for what is to be expected in the future. However, the game has garnered much interest since becoming available to the general public. The general manager at Diablo, Rod Fergusson, noted that the creation of the game was instrumental to its success.
Fergusson also said that creating a game like Diablo IV needed sustainability. As such, the team could not be pushed to deliver within a short deadline, as this would result in exhaustion. Games that are also being created nowadays are also looking for expanded offerings, which the developers have to cater to achieve success.
The launch of the main game has been a resounding success, with the recent DDoS campaign being one of the main challenges that the team has faced so far. After the first season of the game, the team will work on releasing the second season. Expansions for the game are also underway to boost player engagement and maintain interest.
Diablo IV was released on PC, PS5, and Xbox on June 6. The Diablo IV story happens decades after Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is complete. The game’s narrative is similar to Diablo II. The character in this game pursues the demon Lilith after a visit to a remote village. The character is usually a step behind Lilith, making the game challenging.
